| Alpha Omicron Pi is dedicated to supporting the
efforts of all members to be women who strive to grow intellectually and
be vital participants in the world around them. Through active
involvement in a collegiate and later an alumnae chapter, women are
challenged to learn and to lead. To assist in these efforts, AOII
is continually developing educational materials to be shared within
individual chapters so that these members can influence and impact their
communities. One of our collegians described her AOII experience
in this way, “I joined AOII to meet people, to make friends, and
it was the right thing to do. But it became much more than that
– I learned leadership skills, study habits, social skills, and
gained self-esteem. My eyes were opened to a whole new world of
possibilities.” |

Wellness Education
Educational programming is designed to address current topics
relating to personal wellness and well being, and each one seeks to
increase awareness regarding issues that can affect women of all
ages. The first in this series focuses on depression and the
rise in suicide and is called F.A.I.T.H., Fostering Awareness In
Teaching Hope. An interactive cd-rom and a journal combine
to provide first hand accounts, statistics, small group activities, a
self-assessment questionnaire, and resources to seek additional help and
information.

Learning Together
Learning continues throughout life and as an AOII the best part is
the opportunity to learn together. From collegiate years on
through alumnae involvement , the reason AOIIs continue is the joy of
spending time together and sharing the insights learned in the
relationships we build and sustain. These friendships, forged upon
the ideals of AOII, strengthen and encourage every AOII to strive to be
the best as women today.

Leadership
Whether a member chooses to serve on a committee, run for a chapter
office, or represent AOII as a member of other campus or community
organizations, there are unlimited opportunities to be involved in AOII.
At the chapter level, there are workshops that foster the understanding
of different leadership styles and how to promote group consensus and
collaboration. Developing and refining leadership skills are an ongoing
process that is nurtured through AOII’s Leadership Academies and
Leadership Institute. Leadership Academies are held every
fall and spring and provide skills training for those who hold a
specific office and the advisor. In addition, Leadership
Institute is held in the summer of even years and is an opportunity for
any member to participate in leadership activities and
training.

AOII Appreciation
Understanding the history of AOII and the values on which it was
based over 100 years ago, is a process of appreciation that continues
throughout one’s lifetime. The fundamental gift of AOII is a
legacy that each member enjoys and nurtures for the future of chapters
all across the United States and Canada.
"The object of our fraternity shall be to encourage a spirit of
fraternity and love among its members; to stand at all times for college
loyalty; to strive for and support the best interests of the colleges
and universities in which chapters are installed, and in no way to
disregard, injure, or sacrifice those interests for the sake of prestige
or advancement of the Fraternity or any of its
chapters." Alpha Omicron Pi

Academic Excellence
AOII encourages all members to excel academically and has many
programs designed to assist women in achieving their academic goals.
Expectations are high but the support provided by scholarship programs,
academic development officer resources, and fellow members makes success
attainable. The emphasis on these pursuits was instilled by the four
founding members of AOII in 1897 at Barnard College of Columbia
University in New York, and this commitment remains a strong part of
AOII today.
Alpha Omicron Pi Foundation offers a variety of scholarships to its
