Summer Sisterhood

Toni Morgan, Alpha Chi (Western Kentucky U), Rituals, Traditions, and Jewelry Committee
Are you looking for ideas on how to strengthen your sisterhood this summer? Your Rituals, Traditions, and Jewelry Committee sisters would like to share some ideas with you. Here are a few simple suggestions to get you started, followed by a sisterhood challenge outline:
- Text a different sister each week, with something simple, such as thinking of you! Hope you are having a great summer! Maybe even call it Texting Tuesday or something, corny like that.
- Remember sisters with summer birthdays! This is especially true for collegians, as they don’t get as many warm wishes when school is out of session.
- Check in on sisters who are taking summer school or preparing for fall recruitment! Recognize that summer isn’t “vacation time” for all and that some are working hard. And don’t forget our sisters who are teachers, who prepare for “back to school” early.
Now, are you willing to accept a challenge and see how many of these sisterhood ideas you can put into practice?
- Start a Summer Sisterhood Challenge
Create a list of shared goals or activities that reflect our AOII values and sisterhood. You can share the challenge experiences on the chapter Instagram or to make it more personal use a group chat to track your progress in completing the challenges. (e.g. volunteer for a local organization, read a book on living a better life, outline a chapter sisterhood activity to try next year). - Engage in a Creative Project Together
Start a combined post of your summer adventures that reflect our commitment to lifelong sisterhood, service, or learning.
Examples of Sisterhood: Visit an elder sister and share AOII stories
Examples of Service: Participate in a recognition or fund raising walk,
Examples of Learning: Try group crafting, or learning a new skill (e.g. pottery, dance class, yoga). - Volunteer as a Group
Spend time giving back to the community—plant trees, serve at a shelter, or organize a charity drive. - Host “Sisterhood Summits”
Create an intentional time for deeper conversation—talk about goals, struggles, and dreams and how our sisterhood makes a difference to achieve the impossible.
Idea: Have prompts ahead of the conversation cards or journals to open up vulnerable, bonding discussions. - Create Summer Rituals
Weekly “check-in” brunches, sunset walks, or “wellness Wednesdays” (meditation, yoga, spa days).
Shared rituals create memories and continuity. - Celebrate Milestones
Acknowledge birthdays, achievements, or personal growth with small gatherings or meaningful sisterhood messages.
Celebrate sisterhood itself—host a “sisters appreciation day.” - Plan Regular Meetups or Mini-Trips and add the friendship circle at the start and end of the trip
Go on weekend getaways, beach trips, or even simple picnics.
Have fun in the backyard BBQs, movie nights, or game nights.
As you can see from these examples, strengthening your sisterhood experiences can be fun and easy! What are some of your plans?
