AOII Fraternity Funds $10,000 Grant for The MoonCatcher Project

in General News

The Circle of Sisterhood Foundation (CofS), a nonprofit powered by sorority women to remove barriers to education for girls and women worldwide, proudly announced a $10,000 grant made possible by AOII. This generous contribution will enable 2,000 girls to continue their education without interruption and empower 40 female tailors in nine sewing cooperatives in Kenya, Malawi, and Uganda.

The grant will directly support The MoonCatcher Project (MCP), an organization dedicated to removing menstruation-related barriers to education for girls in under-resourced communities. With this funding, MCP will supply materials to nine sewing cooperatives, employing 40 female tailors to produce 2,000 reusable menstrual kits. These kits will be distributed free of charge to school– age girls and young women, helping them manage their periods with dignity and confidence.

We chose to fund this grant because we believe every girl deserves the opportunity to pursue her education without shame or interruption, said AOII Executive Director Kaya Miller.Partnering with the Circle of Sisterhood allows us to make a global impact.”

Each MoonCatcher Kit includes reusable pads, a pad carrier, a waterproof bag for used pads, and a cotton storage bag. Uniquely, MCP’s pads can be worn without underwear—an essential feature for girls in communities where underwear is a luxury. Alongside the kits, MCP provides education on menstrual management and reproductive health, helping girls feel confident, informed, and empowered to stay in school.

We are proud to support The MoonCatcher Project’s innovative and compassionate approach to menstrual health, said Ginny Carroll, founder and executive director of CofS. “Thanks to Alpha Omicron Pi, thousands of girls will be able to continue their education and pursue their dreams.”
